While filming her documentary “Tibet’s Cry for Freedom”, first time filmmaker Lara Damiani gathered footage of the Dalai Lama from around Australia and overseas. Featuring parts of her exclusive interview with His Holiness in New Delhi, India as well as his talks in Australia and New Zealand, “The Man in Maroon” includes interviews with well known musicians John Butler (Australia), Natali Pap’au’au from roots band Blues King Brown (Australia) and Chuck Stokes and Chad Fay from State Radio (USA).

Hear what these musicians have to say about the Dalai Lama and the issue of Tibet, and listen to the Dalai Lama share his thoughts on a variety of topics from Tibet, Politics, Secular Ethics, Human Values, Religion. China, Western Values, the Tibetan Khata and more.

His infectious sense of humour pervaded many of his talks as he offers up candid opinions on Australian, Brits and Americans and much more.

“The Man in Maroon” calls himself ‘a simple monk’ but he’s so much more than that. His words have the power to change humanity, to give us insight, clarity and, at the very least - the ability to be happy.

The film also includes previously unseen footage filmed secretly inside Tibet.

Having directed, produced and shot most of the footage for “Tibet’s Cry for Freedom”, this was the first film Lara shot, directed, produced and edited completely on her own.
